For folks who like rustic cooking,  my Mom loved cooking out doors under the trees in our backyard.  Sometimes our food was served in large leaves that she picked in the garden for effect.  She used a large pot, and cooked on a clay made stove called a fireside.  If you have never eaten a classic fireside prepared meal, you are missing out on quite an experience.   The term "fireside" was used to describe a clay made open ended outdoor oven-like cooking alternative.  One can use coals, or wood ignited by kerosene and I clearly remember my Grandmother having one in her kitchen.  Meals prepared this way acquired an enriched smoke flavor and was uniquely pleasing.  In retrospect,  I would definitely say that it was like using a Tandoor Oven.
